Energy has always been closely linked to TCU geology graduates. Students majoring in geology have the opportunity to take many courses related to oil and gas exploration. Besides the basic courses on minerals, rocks, fossils and the time scale, students learn modern mapping techniques, well log analysis, subsurface mapping, seismic interpretation, petroleum geology, GIS, and more. Those seeking either a B.A. or B.S. in geology may also opt to minor in Energy Technology and Management in 2008 by taking additional courses in engineering, environmental science, business and a capstone course titled “Prospect to Production.” Also, both the department and the Institute help coordinate industry summer internship programs for geology majors.
